ESUC stands for Engineering Society of the University of California (Los Angeles). It is the engineering student organization that houses all of the various Engineering and Technical societies at UCLA. The Engineering Society was founded in 1946 to fulfill these goals:
The ESUC organization at UCLA also has a student lounge where members can use. It consists of a main lounge area with tables for students to study, leather couches and arm-chairs for members to sit and relax. The lounge's location is also very convenient for many. Located at on the fifth floor of Boelter Hall (5800E), the student lounge just happens to be right across the hall from the SEAS Café.
The lounge also contains a student run computer lab with 14 Pentium III 1 GHz Dell OptiPlexes with 17" flat Trinitron monitors. We also have our own WiFi (IEEE 802.11b) wireless LAN for our members to use in and around the lounge area.
ESUC's mentorship program pairs up newer students with older students in a one-to-one system allowing every mentee to have a reliable and consistent mentor to whom they can come to ask questions about classes or general help on school. This program was first tried in 2000-2001 and most of the communications between mentor and mentee were done via email. This turned out to be very convenient for both mentor and mentee.
ESUC also holds 1-2 general meetings per quarter for its members. At the general meetings, members get news information about upcoming workshops, corporate info sessions, and even workshops tailored to its members.
With a prime location located on the fifth floor of Boelter Hall and right across from the SEAS Café, many people come by the lounge to hangout in between classes. Many come by during lunch time to eat. Others come by to study. The lounge is also a convenient place to come by for help on homework. There are always fellow students in the lounge who are more than willing to help answer questions.
